2028 Tigers Of India Photography Tour

The mountains, forests, lakes, deserts and savannas of India occupy one of the great wilderness areas of Asia. Our exclusive 12-day tiger tour will be led by award winning professional wildlife photographer Steve Race and his son Alfie Race who is a wildlife photographer/filmmaker. This trip is a wonderful opportunity to join a small group of like-minded people with the aim of creating an unforgettable experience. We will spend our time in the beautiful Kanha and Pench National Parks, which are rich in biodiversity.

Kanha National Park

Situated in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, the picturesque Kanha National Park was the inspiration behind Rudyard Kipling's unforgettable classic Jungle Book. The park was created in 1955 by a special law and, since then, it has dedicated itself in preserving a variety of animal species. Many endangered species have indeed been saved here. Today Kanha is among the few most scenic and beautiful wildlife reserves in Asia. This 'Tiger Country' is the ideal home for both predator and prey. The Park extends over an area of over 1,940-sq-kms. The major feature of this region's interesting topography is the horseshoe shape valley.

The Kanha National Park also supports habitat for many animal species. There are approximately 22 mammal species and 11 rare species of animals. Swamp deer is the most prominent species of the reserve. Birdlife is abundant with approximately 300 avian species in Kanha National Park. One can easily get delighted to spot spell-bounding birds from the top of hills and in the grasslands.

We will be staying at Kanha Earth Lodge, which is an eco luxe resort, tucked away in a small tribal hamlet bordering Kanha’s buffer zone, and built in less than 5% of the 16 acres of natural forest that surrounds it. It consists of twelve luxury bungalows with spacious verandas that promise unhindered, stunning views. Inspired by traditional Gond architecture, the cottages have been meticulously designed using locally available materials such as mud plaster, stone, terracotta tiles and rough-hewn timber beams. The furniture has been delicately crafted using waste and recycled wood, thereby blending seamlessly with the natural forest setting. Guests can enjoy escorted tours to the national park and witness the Indian wildlife first hand with our experienced naturalists.

Pench National Park

Pench Tiger Reserve is one of India’s most captivating wildlife destinations, stretching through the forests of Madhya Pradesh and named after the Pench River that flows through its landscape. Its dry deciduous forests, open meadows and waterholes support an extraordinary variety of wildlife, including Bengal tigers, leopards, dholes, gaur, sambar and large herds of spotted deer, alongside a rich diversity of birdlife.

The landscape is particularly renowned for its tiger habitat and has become closely associated with the world of The Jungle Book. Beyond the chance of encountering a tiger, Pench offers an immersive experience of wild India—where alarm calls echo through the forest, langurs watch from the canopy and every drive carries the possibility of an unforgettable encounter.

We will be staying at Pench Tree Lodge which is a secluded wildlife retreat set within 40 acres of rewilded forest near the Karmajhiri side of Pench Tiger Reserve. Designed to immerse guests in the surrounding landscape, the lodge combines elevated tree houses and private cottages with a strong focus on nature, conservation and low-impact tourism.

Pench Tree Lodge comprises of 10 cottages and 6 tree houses spread across 40 acres of forested land. The lodge also has an outdoor pool, multi cuisine dining hall, organic farm, library and a team of experienced naturalists.

Our small group will include only 9 photographers attending 12 game drives using three jeeps. This will give maximum room for prime photographic spots and positions within the vehicle and to accommodate for baggage and camera equipment. Steve and Alfie will spend an equal amount of time in each of the three vehicles, ensuring that every guest benefits from their extensive wildlife photography knowledge. They will be on hand to ensure that you’re getting the very best from your photographic experience. They will also both be available in the evenings to answer any technical or compositional questions that you may have relating to your days adventures.
