2027 Moorland Birds Photography Experience

Beautiful heather moorland lies at the very heart of the North York Moors National Park. As the seasons change, this stunning landscape reveals a quiet drama all its own. Early summer is characterised by the calls of moorland birds, and, as the evenings draw in, a purple carpet of flowering heather stretches for miles across the open vistas. 

Key Species: Red Grouse, Golden Plover, Curlew, Lapwing, Snipe, Whinchat, Stonechat, Ring Ouzel, Wheatear, Meadow Pipit and Dipper.

The best time to visit the North York Moors National Park is from April to the end of August. April to early June is the prime breeding season for all moorland birds and the sounds of the varied species we will encounter can be heard for many miles across the moors.

This 1:1 or 2:1 moorland bird photography experience will be tailored towards beginners, enthusiasts and professional wildlife photographers, and will be delivered by award winning wildlife photographer Steve Race. We will look at the techniques and equipment needed to photograph moorland birds and advice and tips will be given on how to get that perfect wildlife image. You will learn about correct exposure, how to deal with tricky lighting conditions such as harsh sunlight or low light levels, depth of field techniques to compensate for the expanse of moorland and about the amazing bird life breeding in this habitat.
