Morocco Bound

Fri 30th Mar, 2012

My name is Sam Smales; I am 16 years old and have lived in Flamborough all of my life.

Next July I will be going to Morocco as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Gold award, where I will go on a five day expedition in the Atlas Mountains and then for another five days I will be helping some Berber villagers in a community project. This will be a great experience which will stay with me for the rest of my life. The Gold award consists of an Expedition, a Residential - both done in Morocco; Volunteering – to be done at the RSPB at Bempton; a Skill - for which I will be doing Archery every Sunday, and a Physical Activity.

The trip to Morocco will cost £1400. To raise this money I will be doing activities with my school, such as bag packing and car boot sales. I also have a job and half of the money I earn is going towards this trip, and my family has agreed to give me money toward the trip for birthday and Christmas presents. I am doing a sponsored cliff top walk in August from Scarborough Lighthouse to Flamborough Lighthouse (approx 22 miles). I have also approached several companies including Wold Ecology who have kindly agreed to sponsor me.
