Spurn Birding Holiday - Spring Migrants 2024
Spurn is one of the top Bird Observatories in the UK for bird migration. The unique long, narrow hook of Spurn at the southern end of the Holderness coastline encourages birds to follow the narrow peninsular concentrating numbers of birds in a relatively small area.

A great place for finding and studying common migrants in spring. In 2023 during May Spurn was host to a wide variety of amazing birds. Joining the common migrants such as Common Whitethroats, Blackcaps and Willow Warblers were fabulous scarce and rare birds; Bee-eater, Red-rumped Swallow, Temminck's Stint, Red-backed Shrike, the list goes on and on! There really is no place like Spurn.
Adjacent to the peninsular is the vast Humber Estuary, home to hundreds of thousands of waders such as Red Knot, Bar-tailed Godwit, Curlew and grey Plover. These birds are still with us in May before the leave back to the Arctic.

Richard Baines PGdip MCIEEM
Richard’s love of birds and wildlife started at age nine when he watched wide eyed as a charm of European Goldfinch fed on a thistle within a few feet of him in the grounds of his primary school. The next day he was busy drawing the flock in his art class./tutors/2/richard-baines-pgdip-mcieem

Just returned from a wonderful 5-day trip to Spurn with Yorkshire Coast Nature. The two leaders, Richard Baines and Mark James Pearson were brilliant. Incredible knowledge of birds and calls combined with a passionate boyish enthusiasm ensured a great time was had by all. Despite the lack of perfect weather conditions, we still managed to see over 100 species! Many thanks guys. We'll be back for more next year. Paul Robinson October 2020
